on kind words and a time for change.

I'm always so discouraged to read other bloggers' stories about negative comments, those dreaded anonymous comments, and those nasty emails. And then I read on a blog that there are sites where people post about why they hate certain blogs. I mean, come on now. That's just not cool. Not cool at all. Don't waste your time writing mean things. Being mean is unacceptable for everyone. It's just not right.

End rant.

Personally, I feel so very, very blessed to have had such a positive blogging experience. In all honesty, that's one of my favorite parts about having a small blog. The people here are kind, real, and encouraging. Sure, I get the spammy anonymous comments every now and then, but they're mostly telling me to come visit their gambling site or something. Which isn't going to happen FYI, but that's a completely different story.

Anyway, on my most recent post, two very sweet ladies (see their blogs here and here) encouraged me and really brightened my day. My first teaching day went surprisingly well, but I have to admit that hearing constructive criticism from the teachers was hard. Everything was kindly worded and truly helpful, but that doesn't mean it didn't sting. But what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?

But in the season of Thanksgiving, I just wanted to say how very blessed I am. I am blessed to have this blog. I am blessed to have made new friendships through this blog. I am blessed to be able to read blogs and deepen my faith in Him through other bloggers, too.

Seeing as my blog turns two this month (where did time fly?), I thought it would be a great time to write down my blessings + announce a change. Not drastic, but necessary nonetheless.

After reading this post and this prayer, I think it's about time for me to say that I hereby declare this blog as His. I've spent way too much time thinking about ways to get more readers for this blog. On the flip side, I've spent very little time thinking about ways to make this blog glorify Him.

I've spent way too much time wondering why people just don't click with this blog. And not enough time thanking Him for all the opportunities and relationships this blog has opened up for me.

So 'tis the season. 'Tis the season be grateful, to be kind, and to be a blogger for Him.

It's also the season for eating leftover Halloween candy, lots of stuffing, and present-shopping, too.

Yep, Thanksgiving season is my fave.

  1. This post is PERFECT! Amen. I spend waaaay too much time worrying about followers. I find that the days when I just turn over my blog to Him instead of trying so hard, He surprises me with sweet comments or a new follower. God works in the best ways!

  2. Isn't that the truth? Seriously, I feel the same way about blogging and follower-worrying. And I love being surprised with comments + new readers. They're the best. :)

  3. I can't thank you enough for the kind feedback you left on my post. It meant so much to have such an overwhelmingly positive response the other day, especially after I had been (unfortunately) so upset by that website. Now that I've had time to clear my head, I realize how it shines more of a light on the sort of people they are to say things like that, as opposed to the person I am. It's always hard to brush off any cruel remarks, no matter where they come from, but it feels good to be on the other side and have some better perspective.

Like you mentioned in this post, blogging can be such a blessing. I've met so many incredible people that I consider to be real friends, and not just online friends. It connects people in a different way than if you meet someone in "real life", mostly because you can read their thoughts, in a way. It brings you closer, faster. If that makes any sense. :)

You have a lovely blog and I'm grateful you take the time to always be so kind. You are a gem. Truly!

    1. That is most definitely the truth. Someone's mean actions/words do reflect more on that person's character than the person he/she is referring to. What a great perspective!

And thank you so very, very much! It means a lot to me that you not only visited my blog, but read this post + commented, too!
