what i'm listening to: whom shall i fear.

I never would have thought that something music-related would turn into a series-of-sorts, but I guess this is one of those things that God and blogging life surprises you with. Music has always been a part of my life (for better or worse) and I always find myself clinging to lyrics that speak to my soul. And even though I sound like a cliche as I type this, that was best introduction that I could think of.

After writing this post (and these posts and these series), I've decided to create a mini-series on music that I've been listening to lately. Granted, this is coming from a girl who doesn't know her bands and song titles and who more often than not buys music that is at least two years old, but a song is a song. And there are some songs that just need to be heard.

Exhibit A: Chris Tomlin. He's been a part of my life for awhile now, I guess. Not in a personal, I-know-how-you-like-your-steak-kind-of-way, but in a I-sing-and-hear-your-music-all-the-time-way. His music is pretty spot on, too. Lately I've been really clinging onto his latest song, Whom Shall I Fear.

As a natural worrywart, it's a constant struggle for me to give my worries and fears to God instead of letting them fester inside. But as I've been reading through His word, I'm reminded that I am not going through this journey called life alone. He's there before me, beside me, and behind me. And there's nothing I can't do without Him.

So if you're a natural worrywart like me (or even if you're not!) I urge you to take a listen to this song. It's powerful, it's honest, and it's kinda catchy, too. Normally, I would apologize ahead of time for getting a song stuck in your head, but this time I can't because they lyrics are just too good.

You hear me when I call
You are my morning song
Though darkness fills the night
It cannot hide the light

Whom shall I fear?

You crush the enemy
Underneath my feet
You are my sword and shield
Though trouble linger still

Whom shall I fear?

I know who goes before me
I know who stands behind
The God of angel armies is always by my side

The One who reigns forever
He is a friend of mine
The God of angel armies is always by my side

My strength is in Your name
For You alone can save
You will deliver me
Yours is the victory
Whom shall I fear?
Whom shall I fear?

And nothing formed against me shall stand
You hold the whole world in Your hands
I'm holding on to Your promises
You are faithful
You are faithful
