surprises.

cake

Not many people know how much I enjoy surprises. As in I really love them. Unfortunately, surprises among my family rarely happen because it's pretty hard to keep secrets from being spilled when you live in such close quarters and have done so for so long. So you can probably imagine the shock I was in (and the smile on my face) when my sister pulled this cake from the fridge after dinner on Saturday.

I had spent the afternoon babysitting and she somehow whipped up this poppyseed layer cake (complete with raspberry curd and almond buttercream frosting!) while I was gone. I honestly have no idea how she did that because it would have taken me all day to just bake the cake!

Anyway, just had to give a little shout out to her. She completely surprised me and I am so grateful for this little graduation present. Sisters are the best, amiright?

Love you sister!

p.s. In case you're wondering, my family loves our desserts cold. As in cold, cold. Cold desserts are way better than warm ones. Sorry not sorry if you don't agree.

p.p.s. How was your weekend? Tell me, tell me please!

    1. It was super yummy and oh so tempting to keep eating!

And I do agree with you on the moist and gooey part. Girl, you're making me want some chocolate cake now (and that's coming from a girl who doesn't usually like chocolate cake!).

Um, I'm alright with your weekend. Sunshine and laziness is my definition of the perfect weekend. :)

    1. It definitely is/was delicious! Everytime I see this photo it makes me want to eat another slice--which will not be so great come two days from now when my jeans hate me, haha.

And I do agree with on the cookie thing. Cookies straight from the oven are pretty darn yummy. :)

And girl, you're making me hungry, too!

  3. That cake is beautiful and looks delicious! Most of the time I love warm ooey gooey desserts. But when it cames to cakes, like yours, I do prefer them chilled.
    I had a wonderful weekend!
    God bless,

    1. It is delicious! And I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who prefers her cake chilled. They're so much better than room temperature. :)

  4. Wow! That cakes a beaut!! And happy graduation, love! That's a good reason to celebrate! And I had a fabulous weekend, thanks! Chill Saturday, church on Sunday and then a hockey game in the afternoon with my peeps! It was sooo much fun! And then Red Robin for dinner afterwards. I had a grand time! It was sorta an emotional weekend in other respects, though! There's such HUGE changes coming my way that I'm freaking out about...I hate change...like really, really, really hate it...and I'm still figuring out how to process and proceed from here! But in everything....God is still in His heaven and I'm still His child, right? Right. Happy Monday, friendie!

    1. Thank you friend! The cake really is pretty (and definitely deserving of its own blog post, too!). And thank you about the graduation thing! It still hasn't sunk in yet, to tell you the truth. But I'm thinking come April I'll be dying to be back in school (as odd as that sounds for me to type right now...).

Your weekend sounds fabulous! And girl, I'm with you on change. Change is SO SO hard. Transitions and changes are tough. I'll be praying for you! God has some amazing plans for you and I know good is still to come! Sending love your way, friend!!
