in love.

You know you're in love with photography when you say you're in love with a little camera lens.

But guys, this lens is my new love. When I heard from bloggers that the nifty fifty is the lens to get, I hoped that I would get the opportunity to add it to my nonexistent lens collection.

And while I could go on and on about how great it is, I just have to say that I love the aperture + low light abilities. I sometimes have focusing issues (am I the only one?) but I like that it provides me with a challenge photography-wise.

Man, I cannot wait to shoot more photos with this little lens.

So what's your fave camera lens or camera? Or do you have a favorite photographer or photography blog that you stalk? Spill the beans!

  1. I love to look at the pictures... but all the photography talk is foreign to me. My sister and dad are really into it, but it's never something I was passionate about.

    1. Looking at photos is (and will always be!) my favorite part about photography. I only recently got a grip on some of the photography lingo and still get confused every now and then. :)

  2. Lately, that right there is my favorite lens! You asked what camera and lens I used in the pics of my son... I have a rebel xs (desperately want an upgrade... this is the year for it. Or at least it better be!) Pretty sure I used my 50 and I also used my external flash.

The other lens I use is my 28-135. That would be my every day lens.

Hooray to you though for getting the 50! The low aperture makes for tons of fun! It took me a while to get used to not having zoom and I didn't use the lens much at first but I eventually learned to love it and use it all the time now!

    1. It's definitely proving to be an adjustment zooming with my feet (or by walking) as opposed to just using my fingers to adjust the zoom. But it's also a lot of fun and I love trying something new with my camera.

And I have the same camera--we're camera twins, I guess! Except I think your photos are way more amazing than mine. I'm definitely going to have to look into the 28-135mm lens. Is that the lens that you used for your zoo photos?

    1. I got a 50mm one! It's so much fun and I love trying new things with it that I couldn't do before with my standard kit lens. And how's the 35mm one? I've heard a lot about that one, too!

This is the only lens I even have right now, since when I moved, all mom's lenses got to stay behind with mom. :) Gral, I'm so excited to see more of your already-fabulous photos get even better!! :)

    1. Um, BIGGEST compliment ever! And I think this means that we get to schedule some sort of meetup because now we're camera lens twins. :)

    1. It's definitely exciting and a whole new kind of challenge for me!

I actually got both my camera and lens used online to make things a little cheaper. I hope you get one, too someday because they're a lot of fun to shoot with (although your photos are still very pretty!). :)

  7. the 50mm is the ONLY one i used to do a photo shoot yesterday and i loved it!
    The detail, the colors, everything!
I think you're going to love it.
Yes getting a wide angle shot requires you to back alllllllll the way up but it is so worth it! ha.

    1. I think I already know I'm going to love it. :) And I know I've said it before, but I LOVE all your photos--especially all of the photoshoots. I would also love to hear more about it (you could make it a blog post, hint hint). :)

And if wide angle shots require me to walk farther back, then I guess my lens/camera will become a new source of exercise!

  8. I am just now looking to upgrade my Canon G11 to a DSLR. You’re very helpful with these posts since I want to get more into photography both personal and for the blog. I am very much the beginner and would love any advice you could pass on in terms of cameras and lenses. :)

  9. Hi Kelly! Hooray for getting DSLR! That is so exciting and I am so flattered you would turn to me for advice. :)

I learned a lot of what I know from trial and error AND photography tutorials. I don't know much about the Canon G11 and its capabilities, but really learning about all that your camera CAN do is a must (I'm still learning myself!). I currently have a Canon 60D but would recommend any Canon camera (only because I don't know much about Nikons and the other brands). Depending on what you want in a camera, any Canon DSLR is good! I only got the 60D because my Canon Rebel XS was really old and I wanted to try out video--which I still need to try more of!

As for lenses, I HIGHLY recommend the 50mm/1.8 lens. It's often called the nifty fifty because it's the best money for its buck (I think it's about $100!). It's the only lens I shoot with and it makes a huge difference in your photography.

I hope this helps! If you have any more questions or if any of this makes NO sense at all (which is highly probable, haha), let me know! I love talking cameras and photography, if you couldn't tell. :)

p.s. Have you heard of B+H Photo? They're a great website in NY that has new AND used cameras, lenses, and other camera equipment. I have bought all of my camera gear from them and love it!

  10. Thanks SO much for all your help and guidance! I wanted to learn from those who are figuring it out along the way like I am...those online tutorials often are written like a foreign language to me and it’s nice to understand what you mean!

  11. Of course, of course! I will check and see if I can find any of my favorite photography tutorials, but all of them are on my Pinterest board, if you're interested (https://www.pinterest.com/misskiki/photography/). It definitely took me awhile to get a knack on all of the photography terms and such!

Do you know what camera you're interested in?
