life lessons learned.

23
My teachers never said once that it's okay to fail. Probably because they would start some sort of revolution in saying something like that, but I think it's an important thing for kids to know. And I'll say it again, it's okay to fail. No one likes to fail, but sometimes failure can lead you to beauty and opportunities that you never would have ever imagined. That, and failures aren't really failures. They're just tough steps you have to take on this path in life to get to much bigger and better places.

Secondly, being cool really isn't that cool. Sure, I was never the cool kid at school, but I still think it's the truth. Popularity may seem like the coolest thing in the world, but it's the close friendships and relationships that will last a lifetime and get you through the tough times. As a wise pin once said, it's not the number of friends you have, but about the number of friends you can be certain of and trust.

Lastly, naps are amazing. This is something that sounds silly, but something that I've realized are oh-so-nice. They not only give you a chance to relax, but a chance to clear your mind, de-stress, and just re-energize. If only naptime was mandatory in the workplace.

  1. Ah, yes. I could use a good nap right about now!! I can just see myself curled up under my desk. Ah. Sounds lovely. :)

Silliness aside (by the way, I do agree on the naps thing!), I love these life lessons. Each one is so true. Regarding failure, like Thomas Edison said, "I have not failed. I've just found one thousand ways that didn't work." Each attempt is a lesson itself, no matter what it is that we're trying to do.

And ya know...I sorta needed that "it's okay to not be cool" reminder today. Thanks, my incredible sister-friend. :)

    1. Naptime sounds wonderful, right? Sounds just lovely right about now. :)

I love that Thomas Edison quote! That sounds like the perfect quote for my future classroom. And I so agree, attempts are a much better way to view failures. Because everything in life is an attempt--some just have different outcomes than others.

And I'm glad you agree with the cool thing. It's definitely something that I find myself thinking every now and then as a blogger so I knew I had to include it in the post. But girl, you're cool to me!

  3. I think naps would be the BEST benefit to add to a workplace, haha! Why give them to kids who don't need or appreciate them? Oh man, what I would have done for a nap in high school or even in my office?!?!

Haha and I can imagine that teachers wouldn't say it's okay to fail in school because... well, then maybe no one would try? Haha... gotta keep the kids competitive! Plus, I think more than it being about failing at tests, which have a very clear-cut right and wrong sort of thing, life is so open. What is failing when the options and possibilities are endless?

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. I know, right? And yes, it's so funny how as kids we (or at least I) hated naps and naptime. Now I would trade a short nap for just about anything! Okay, so maybe not anything, but still. :)

And that's exactly why I don't think teachers say it's okay to fail. I just wish they'd be more supportive to students who do fail and let them know that they can succeed. Does that make any sense?

  4. I'm not gonna lie... I may be the only person in the world that doesn't like naps. I just am not a fan of waking up from naps. I always feel worse than when I started. It's weird, I know.

    1. One of my sisters doesn't nap either, so you're not alone! But there are definitely some naps when I feel groggy and half-awake (and definitely NOT refreshed!). So it's definitely not weird at all! :)
