what do i do?

whatdoyoudo

Today's topic is about what we do. More specifically, Jenni asked, if you couldn't answer with your job, how would you answer the question, 'what do you do'?

I love this prompt because I feel like whenever I meet someone new, answering what do you do? is one of the first questions to come up. When answering, I always feel obligated to talk about my status as a college grad and job seeker. This prompt, however, forces me to look beyond that part of my identity and talk about what I do in other aspects of life.

So here's what I do:

If you don't have time to read, you can sum up my life by knowing that I have a passion for the under-appreciated things in life.

For starters, I live for and love Jesus with all of my heart. I know this could sound fake, but I really and truly do. And the more I blog, the more I learn more about Him, and the more I praise and worship Him, the more I realize just how much I need Jesus in my life each and every single day.

Through blogging, I write about my struggles, my victories, and my dreams. I guess you could say that I write like there's no tomorrow. You may also call me wordy, but writing is my therapy, my release, and my life. I remember writing stories in journals in first grade and loving the magic that came from words written on a flimsy sheet of paper. Since discovering blogging, I've discovered how much beauty, how much courage, and how much truth can be found in words. So instead of thinking that blogging is for nerds (okay, maybe it is seeing as I like to consider myself one), I think of it as an art. An often under-appreciated art.

Speaking of art, I take photos. In fact, I'm pretty obsessed with photography. I took my first photography class as a intimidated freshman in high school and never dreamed of falling in love with hearing the words aperture and shutter speed, winding film, and living in dark rooms. But I love all that cameras do. I love that with a click of a button, moments are forever captured (and yes, that includes embarrassing moments!). Forever captured, forever cherished, and forever remembered.

When I'm not typing up a storm or gripping onto my camera for dear life, I run (or jog-walk) to clear my head. Running and I used to be enemies (think middle school mile runs around a broken down track) but I've since fallen in love with my alone time when I can listen to worship music and make my heart just a little pound harder.

Lastly, I love children. Preschool and early childhood education often gets a bad rap (because people for some reason think it's not a "real job") but it's something that's been a part of me for over half my life. And even though I've been struggling if teaching is really what I want to God's leading me to do, I know for a fact that my future job is going to have something to do with kids.

And while I know these are all things you already know about me, they're all things I love and things that I do. So yeah, that's what I do. What about you?

    1. I LOVE all that we share so many similarities! And I love that blogging brings people together like this who share the same passions! And I get the whole running thing. I used to hate it with a passion and still do when I'm running uphill. :)

And I'm so, so, so glad that you stopped by! I cannot wait to check out your blog (especially now that I know we have so much in common!). Sorry it took me so long to respond!

    1. I'm glad you took the time to read it! :) I sometimes feel like I repeat myself over and over again, sharing my heart and passions so I'm always grateful (and surprised, really!) to hear that people take the time out of their day to read it.

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of listening to sermons when you run! Like seriously, I need to go download some now. Thank you SO much for sharing that one with me!

  5. Oh life. I love this post! I, like you, loveeee working with kids. I was an elementary ed major for my first 2 years of college then felt like God was calling me towards non-profits more so I switched my major. Fast forward to after college and I worked in a retirement community for 2 years and then as a receptionist... God works in crazy ways huh? Nowwww I think I'm settled into a long term career and I am working with teenagers. It's for sure not where I saw myself, but God knows what's going on, I just have to trust. :)

    1. I never knew you were an elementary ed major! I love finding out all of our similarities!

And yes, God definitely works in crazy ways! Right now I have no idea where He's leading me next and it's such a comfort to be reminded that God's plans for us can be oh so different from what we could ever imagine. Thank you for that reminder, friend!

  6. I love this so much! I think it's awesome to have your relationship with the Lord be something you "do." It should definitely be that way!!! :-)

    1. Yes, it really should be! And writing it and declaring it on my blog not only keeps me accountable, but it really helps me strengthen my walk with Him, too. :)

  7. Love this post! The more I blog, the more I realize how much I need Jesus, too! And it's such a wonderful way to encourage others in their relationships with Him and to worship Him. As for running, it used to be my mortal enemy as well. I'm beginning to actually like it, which is just so crazy for me. Plus, it gives me time to catch up on TV shows ;)

    1. YES. Blogging not only encourages others, but it encourages me, too! I am seriously in awe of how amazing this community is and how much it has really deepened and solidified my faith.

And I love that we both have grown to like running after hating it. I usually run outside, so I don't get a chance to catch up on TV then, but I love that idea. I may need to go find myself a gym now. Because that's seriously the best form of multitasking ever. :)

    1. They most definitely do! :) And I'm so glad that I get to practice both my writing and photography while connecting with others at the same time!
