We've had some hot and humid weather lately and it's just not my thing. My mom likes to tell me that I need to pretend that I'm in Hawaii, but if I was really in Hawaii, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be complaining about the weather. In fact, I'm pretty sure I would be soaking up the sunshine, collecting seashells, and stuffing myself with musubi and haupia; but that's another story in and of itself.

Anyway, Sunday was most definitely warm and humid. 70 degrees and rainy. I know that by writing this I sound like a wimp to some of you, but it's just weird weather for me. I can deal with cold and rainy (story of a PNW-er's life) and I can deal with 70-degree sunny weather, but the two of them combined? Let's just say it leaves me with some funky hair and some wet toes.

But because I want to choose happiness, I decided to grab my raincoat, my camera, and my dad's flip-flops (that were sitting by the back door) and take some photos of the rain. Hence, my singing in the rain.

I could really sing for you, but I think you'd much rather look at some falling raindrops instead (I'm serious on this one).

And I have to say, the warmer weather did make for a much more pleasant photo-taking experience. I guess that's the upside to humid weather, right? Not having frozen toes is definitely a plus.

"Are there any among the false gods of the nations that can bring rain? Or can the heavens give showers?
Are you not he, O Lord our God? We set our hope on you, for you do all these things"
Jeremiah 14:22 (ESV)

  1. Beautiful pictures as always!

I really enjoy seeing your photos because I often find myself thinking "I would have never thought to take a photo like that!" And then I'm inspired to keep trying new things and seeing things in new ways. :)

We have a very rainy day today. Maybe I'll go take some photos... of my kids jumping in puddles haha.

    1. Thank you! And oh my goodness, those words totally made my day because I honestly am inspired by you! And you pretty much made me blush with those words, too.

Can't wait to see those puddle jumping photos! That's something I hope to take photos of someday! :)

  2. Hah I'm so used to warm and rainy here in the summer and I really don't like it much. It makes for some really interesting hair for me too! It frizzes up like nobodies business. And can I just say WOW, these photos are absolutely gorgeous! So much detail!

    1. Girl, you're way tougher than I am! I'm such a wimp, I like my air either dry + hot or cold and wet. I just cannot do the hot + humid thing! So props to you for toughing out that weather better than me, haha. :)

    1. Me too! I'm really hoping for some drier and more summery weather. And you're right, I just checked the weather forecast earlier this morning and it looks like the PNW is in for some drier + warmer weather! Although, I'm a little unsure about the 90+ degrees... :)

  5. LOVE these photos!! Great close ups, great detail! And the lighting conveys the depths of the gray day without looking dull, which I find hard to do! Love them. :)

    1. Thanks, Kellie! :) I felt like a weirdo taking photos of rain since it happens pretty much everyday up here but I'm glad I did now! :) And the lighting definitely got that grey look. I think I probably contributed to that since I wasn't in manual (still so scared of doing that, to be honest!) and quickly adjusted the shutter speed to capture the falling rain without much thinking. :)

    2. Ah, well, either way, they're gorgeous! What mode do you generally shoot in? I've only ever shot in manual...well, before that I shot in auto, only because I hadn't learn how to shoot manual yet. :D

    3. Typically, I shoot in AV mode but have thinking that I should really start shooting in complete manual mode. It's not that I don't understand the settings and stuff, I'm just way too scared about shooting in plain manual mode. I know that sounds ridiculous, but it's so true! But now that I've typed that up, I guess that means that I need to switch, eh?

    1. Thanks, girl! It's funny, when there's a lot of rain, rain and I become enemies (it's mostly one-sided, though!). But when there's rain here and there, I'll tolerate it only because I love how fresh and clean the air is and how much greener everything is, too.

But I totally get what you mean--wet jeans and socks is no fun at all! :)
