ON SUMMERS AT THE BEACH.

Living in the Pacific Northwest has its perks. Sure, it's rainy, but there's greenery pretty much everywhere you go (or so I've been told). Another perk of the PNW? Summers on the beach.

It's pretty much a toss up whether it'll be windy, misty, foggy and grey or sunny with blue skies and no clouds in sight. Sometimes, if we're really lucky, the sand beneath our toes is cold. The water, however? Always cold. Always.

Summers at the beach are my fave. The whole family piles into the car, listens to the radio, naps here and there, and watches as the scenery goes from green + wooded to blue and well, ocean-y.

It's beautiful, my friends. Truly beautiful.

  2. Haha, I'm laughing at the sweatshirts because when I went to Washington state our beach pictures have us all in raincoats! It's a little different here on the east coast ;) But I love that your family has such a tradition.

    1. Sounds like the PNW to me! Honestly, I can't really remember the last time I wasn't wearing yoga pants (or jeans even) and a sweatshirt to the beach. :)

  3. I seriously think wearing a sweatshirt on the beach in summer would make me cry! I like 90* beach days :)

Regardless, you just can't go wrong with the ocean. Ever.

    1. Haha, in all the years that I've been living up here, I honestly can't remember or imagine a time when I didn't have to wear a sweatshirt or jacket to the coast!

But you're right, no matter the climate, you can NEVER go wrong with the ocean. Never ever. :)

    1. It was! I agree, the PNW beaches are fun every time of the year--but summer is definitely my favorite (or well, anytime the sun is out or it's not super cold!). :)

  5. Truly beautiful. I could sure use a trip to the north west. My best friend moved from there a few years ago and the pictures she shows me are breathtaking. She lived in Monterey for a while. I am truly jealous of beautiful natural beaches with drift wood. Is that your sister or mom? The picture of you two is super cute and funny! Love it.

    1. The PNW is amazing and so beautiful (and from what I've heard, super green--although, I can't really say that since I don't have many other places to compare it to!). :) And yes, that beach was covered with driftwood, which is something I'm not very used to either!

And those photos are actually of my sister and my mom! It was super windy that day, so we were walking like crazy people against the wind. :)

  6. One of my favorite things about growing up on the Gulf Coast were the beaches. Much of my family is in coastal Mississippi, so I spent countless days there, not to mention family vacations to Gulf Shores, AL or Destina, FL. Our Northeastern beaches, while they are EVERYWHERE, are not nearly as special. I imagine the Northwest beaches to be particularly unique because of the climate.

    1. The PNW is definitely unique because of the climate, at least that's what I've been told! I've actually never been to a beach outside of the Northwest, so I can't really speak from experience, but from what I've heard, it's a lot colder here than anywhere else. :)

And beaches on the Gulf Coast sound lovely, especially with warmer water and weather! :)

    1. I'm glad you like it (and get it, too!)! That sweatshirt pretty much describes my little sister--the math lover. :) Although, there are times when I wish I had clever sweatshirts like that in my closet!

  8. i LOVE PNW beaches, even though we need to wear sweaters in the summer! But many of our beaches are so rugged and unspoiled.. It makes the hoodies well-worth it!

    1. YES! Even though sweatshirts and sweaters are necessary in the summertime, the beaches are definitely so lovely and not too crowded compared to other areas in the country. Thank you for that wonderful reminder that I can't take this beautiful coast for granted. :)

  9. You know I agree with you!!! I love the hoodies on the beach look, a familiar one to me! :D

    1. Hoodies on the beach are THE best and I'm pretty sure I would feel like something's missing if I ever went to a warmer beach! :)

    1. Haha, thanks! We're an odd bunch but I wouldn't trade them for anyone else. :)

And YES! Please come visit! I've never really thought much about the greenery that borders the beaches, but now that I do think about it, pretty much every beach has it along the cliffs and stuff.

    1. Aw, thank you! I've realized that I don't really post a lot of photos of myself, my family, and the area I call home so thank you. Those words are so sweet and so kind. :)
