DESPITE POPULAR BELIEF...

despitepopularbelief

...I actually enjoy reading the newspaper. There's something about holding a newspaper that is so much better than reading one it on a computer screen. Yep, I'm an old soul.

...I actually like waking up early on Saturdays. It's peaceful, it's quiet, and it's refreshing.

...I don't know one lick of Japanese. I wish I did, but I don't. I just know how to pronounce words, not read them or write them, just pronounce them (from what I've been told, it's a lot like Spanish, in case you're wondering!).

...The game of Monopoly is underrated and I will defend how much fun it is when people tell me it's long and boring.

...I prefer writing on paper (i.e. applications and various forms) instead of typing. There's something about writing that seems more permanent and more official. And yes, that means I also prefer reading the newspaper at the breakfast table instead of on my computer screen.

...Sometimes movies don't need sequels. I'm okay with movies that are made after books that have multiple installments, but I'm not a huge fan of movies that have multiple sequels. It's hard for me to put it into words, but sometimes, less is more.

...I am quite possibly the slowest baker around. I usually read through a recipe at least four times throughout the baking process because I don't want to forget anything. Of course, this baking methods is not fool-proof. Nor is it mess-proof. But maybe that's more of a user error.

...Sushi is not just raw fish. I know a lot of people think that sushi = raw fish, but that's not completely true. Sure, there are quite a few different kinds of sushi that contain raw fish, but there are also rolls that don't. And for the record, I'm one of those people who prefers their fish cooked.

...I don't like using blog readers. That's right, I bookmark each of your lovely blogs because I like to enter your space, admire your lovely blog design, and feel like I'm in a corner of your home (is that too creepy to share?). And while I realize blog readers like bloglovin' allow you to click to that blog, this is my daily routine and I love it and wouldn't can't change it.

Now it's your turn to finish this sentence, despite popular belief...

  1. I'm even more convinced we're long lost twins right now. I'm an early riser, I usually don't like sequels unless they're well done or, like you said, made from book installments, I am such a slow baker, and I don't use a blog reader either! I just use the home page of blogger and click on each individual blog that I follow. I love seeing designs and actually getting a feel for their style! Makes it so much more personal to me. Love this post! I think I may steal this idea for sometime this week :)

    1. Okay, so I really do think we're long lost twins. Girl, how is it that we have so many similarities? It's cool/scary! But, definitely leaning on the cool side. I guess I'm just so amazed (hence this crazy paragraph) because I've never met someone who shares so many similarities before!

Anyway, so glad you agree with me on sequels (well done ones are an exception), getting up early, being a slow baker, and visiting blogs. There's something about blog readers that just aren't the same to me. Plus, blog designs are some of my favorite parts about a blog.

Anyway, thanks girl! I'd love to read your post! :)

  2. Oh my gosh. I love this list - it is seriously the neatest thing. I love getting to learn about other bloggers, and I especially love when someone likes getting up early, like me! ;) And I'm not a fan of any of those blog readers, either. Makes me feel crazy.

Oh yes. And despite popular belief?

Ice cream is a great breakfast. Especially chocolate chip in the summer, sitting on the kitchen counter. That makes it perfect ;)

    1. Thanks, Meghan! I'd love to read your version of this prompt! :) Learning about other bloggers is one of my favorite things to do, too. Now that I think about it, I think it really is a trait of a blogger--we all love learning more about those in the blogging community!

Anyway, hooray for another early riser! There's something way better about starting the day off early than late in my opinion. And I so agree, blog readers make me feel behind and disorganized--even though they're made to organize blogs.

Ooh, love your response. Ice cream in the morning? Sounds good to me! :)

p.s. I think you might be a no-reply commenter. My friend Susannah has a great post on how to change it if you'd like!

  3. Love this post!
I also don't really use blog readers, I like to go to the blog and see what the design is like.
I like getting up early sometimes, but i like sleeping in too.
I;m a slow baker too, i just don;t want to forget anything.

    1. Thanks girl! I came up with this prompt a little while back but never got to publishing it until now. :)

And I'm with you, looking at the blog designs is way better than reading a blog via a blog reader. Like Julie said in her comment, there's something about visiting the blog that makes it feel like you're in their personal space or home. :)

I get it, there are days when I sleep in (rarely but they do feel good), too. Most days I am an early riser, though!

That's exactly how I am! I worry way too much that I'll forget something so I always double check and re-read directions and ingredients. :)

    2. I love you how you save posts like that :)
Yes so true! Definitely like that.
Me too. Although i have gotten better at it, the more times I make a recipe.

  4. I agree.. less is more. Do we really need another Jurassic Park movie? Or more batman movies..
I am old school that way about books.. we have proudly still stayed away from the digital reader.
I bookamark all my fav blogs too..or follow via bloglovin..

    1. Haha, I so agree! There are definitely instances when less is definitely more. :)

And yes! Holding an actual book and having it on a bookshelf is way better than on a digital reader's "bookshelf." I'm just sad that all of the bookstores aren't doing so well anymore!

And I bookmark my blogs, too. I love visiting other blogs and seeing their blog designs and actually visiting their blogs. :)

  5. i love this post! saturday mornings are my thing. i devote the entire morning to Jesus time, reading, sunday school prep, and more Jesus. i'm with you on reading the newspaper - i feel the same way about books/e-readers, too!

    1. Ooh, that sounds like a lovely Saturday routine! I had no idea you're a Sunday School teacher, too! What age do you teach? :)

And yes, holding books and reading newspapers is the way to go. I love filling bookshelves and holding the newspaper in my hands. Old school is the way to go!

p.s. I think you might be a no-reply commenter. My friend Susannah has a great tutorial on that if you'd like!

  6. despite popular belief.... living in the city isn't always that grand. And the Los Angeles that everyone sees on t.v. isn't the real deal.

    P.S. I don't use blog readers either! :)

    1. I'll admit, I so think of LA in terms of the TV shows I've watched or have heard of. Guilty of that one! :) But I get it, I'm definitely a small-town girl. I love visiting cities but I don't think I was made for living in one.

Hooray for another non-blog reader! I love visiting blogs and seeing everyone's styles and blog designs.

  7. Sweet post. I actually only read on blog readers when I am mobile. I prefer to do like you said and visit each persons space when I am on PC. I also don't mind waking up early on the weekends the silence is golden. And I totally hear you on movies not needing sequels sometimes they just get redundant.

Despite popular belief I prefer savory food over sweet ones.

Despite popular belief I am more loving than I let on haha.

    1. I agree--seeing blogs in mobile version isn't quite as good as on a PC so I can see why using a blog reader would be good! I've actually never thought about blogreader apps before now! I might have to look into that... :)

And silence is definitely golden! Since I'm living at home, waking up early in the morning (especially on weekends) gets me lots of good quiet time.

I also agree with you on sequels, they can definitely be redundant, with the first movie and with movies that have already been created, too.

And can I just say that I love your responses to the prompt? I so agree with you savory is WAY better in my book than sweet. Way better.

And girl, you are definitely loving! That is the exact vibe I've gotten from you since we've met! :)

...i'm a woman who enjoys manual labor. It's true. When I have to cut bushes - saw down a tree - move really heavy items of furniture...whatever - it makes me feel strong and fulfilled. haha so weird.
great list of things (like reading the newspaper = love!!)

    1. Girl, you are amazing. Seriously amazing. I tackle manual labor that I enjoy (i.e. painting stuff, cleaning stuff, etc.) but am definitely not as strong of a lady as you are. You rock. :)

And I'm so excited to see that you read the newspaper, too! Old school is sometimes the way to go!

...nationality and ethnicity are not the same thing. I can't tell you how many times I've had people get mad at me when I told them I was an American after they asked about my nationality. "You KNOW what I meant," is often what gets spat at me. I guess being multi-ethnic can be offensive to others. :)

Loved this little look into who you are, and I can definitely relate on the blog reader thing!

    1. I couldn't help but smile when I read this. Having taken classes in college about this sort of thing and having personal experience in this, I so know what you mean! People ask me all the time where I was born and when I say California, some of them even ask me twice because they don't believe me the first time. :)

Anyway, yes! I love getting to know other bloggers, too and these kinds of posts are fun to read and write.

p.s. Glad you agree about the blog reader thing! :)

  11. This is such a good idea for a post! I might have to steal this idea as well!

    I love reading the newspaper!
I like getting up early as well. Especially on Saturdays.
I agree about unnecessary sequels. Yet, once I start a movie collection and it has a sequel (or more) I have to add it to my collection. Or it just feels undone. For example, the Bourne Trilogy, but I do love all of those.
I would rather have a legit book in my hands to turn the pages, instead of a fancy reader or tablet.
I would rather go to a small coffee shop instead of Starbucks (even though they are yummy).
    And...well so much more.

I do use a blog reader, just because I like that they are in one place. But, I click to that person's blog individually and them jump around all their site! Is there a way to organize your bookmarks or something? Because, I feel like that is why I don't bookmarked often...eh. haha

Great idea for a post Kiki. I think you might be seeing these pop up around our blogs!

    1. Haha, sure thing! :)

I'm glad you agree with so many things on my list! I do agree with you on movie collections, though (especially good movie series), there are some that we do need to own all of. :)

And yes, newspapers and actual books are the best. Old school is good sometimes!

I like that blog reader method. I like seeing the actual blogs so I bookmark mine based on types (i.e. faith, DIY, design, food, etc.) and then just visit them in succession. It's a method I've used for a few years now and it's like a daily routine for me now!
