EIGHT THINGS.

eight
So I was tagged by the one and only Amy to write a list of weirdities or odd traits about yours truly. For my long-time readers, you know that I'm no newbie to these posts. And you also know that you love reading them *almost* as much as I love writing them. Although, you'd think that I would have run out of things to add to these lists by now, but apparently I'm weirder than I could have ever imagined.

So here's to a hundred more of these in the future. That's excitement I hear, right?

1. I've only used a dishwasher once (and it wasn't even mine). My parents both prefer hand-washing dishes for various reasons. So I've been hand-washing the family's dinner dishes for years now and can't imagine life without those little conversations I have with my mom as she dries them. But seriously, I don't know how to even turn on our dishwasher. Let alone where to put the soap stuff...

2. I never went to one middle/high school dance. Not once. Not ever. And I'm actually okay with it, too.

3. I reserve evenings for television watching. Judge me all you want, you know you do it, too. And yes, that does mean I have a wide variety of beloved television shows. Like Parenthood. Or Duck Dynasty. And Amazing Race. Or New Girl.

4. I've always secretly wanted to be a librarian. Mostly because of the barcode scanners, but also because I love re-shelving books and seeing people discover a love for reading.

5. I am super jumpy and get scared easily. It's almost embarrassing to count how many times my own family has startled me when I open the door to a room, leave a room, or go down the stairs. It's that bad. Let's just say this girl over here will not enter a haunted house or corn maze by herself.

6 I taught myself how to braid hair (at least that's what my mom told me). I don't know how I did and I actually rarely braid my own hair, but it's something I cannot wait to do if I have daughters.

7. I hate talking on the phone. I would much prefer talking in person one-on-one or corresponding via email than chatting on the phone. Just dialing a phone number gives me butterflies.

8. I've never not had bangs. And I think that'll always be the case for me. The length, actual hair amount, and how they lie on my forehead may change, but I can't imagine myself without them.

That's it! I feel like I should keep writing (and I probably could keep writing) about more of my oddities, but I'll save that for another time.

Now tell me your eight things. And if you've done something similar on your blog lately, leave the link below, too!

p.s. To keep this tag going, I tag Meg, Amber, Jess, Susannah, and Samantha and anyone else who'd love to play along and write their own version of this post!

  1. #7. YES! I literally will tell my friends to come over and drop in instead of calling me. It's so awkward for some reason to talk on the phone!

    1. Haha, YES! I get exactly what you mean! One of the teachers that I work with pokes fun at the fact that I hate talking on the phone and will sometimes make me answer it just to get to me. :) It's so not my cup of tea and I am so relieved you agree!

  2. #1 that IS weird haha. I still handwash a ton of dishes myself - but we also use our dishwasher hahaha. oh so good.
#7 I love talking on the phone, and face to face, and text, haha and SKYPE holla ..I just love talking. ;)
    #8 I've only had bangs....once? when I was a child - curly hair + bangs = disaster, but I love you with bangs!~

    1. Haha, I know it is. A lot of people probably look at me weird when I say that and the only one I've actually used is the one at the house I babysit at--and that's only because they asked me to start it. :)

For some reason, talking on the phone makes me feel awkward. I'm totally fine talking face-to-face (with the exception of talking in front of a classroom of parents!) and texting and all that, but on the phone? It's just sooo weird to me.

And I've heard of that happening to others with curly hair, so you're definitely not the only one. And thanks! I personally, loooove your curly locks!

  3. I've never used a dishwasher ever! And I'm easily started too. Although, it's usually more at work than at home. haha.

    1. Girl, I am so glad we're in the same boat when it comes to dishwashers! It's funny because we do have a working dishwasher, we just never use it. :)

And I think I'm equally easily startled at work and home--but oddly enough, a little more so at home!!

    1. Yes, yes, yes! So glad you agree and can relate. Talking on the phone gets sooo awkward--that's why I'm grateful for modern technology and old face-to-face conversations. :)

  5. #1- wow, that is weird. But i must say, i like to do dishes. But i do use the dishwasher.
    #2- sometimes I wish i didn't. but oh well.
#4- that's what the personality test said would be a good career for me, and i was like- what the heck! I would never want to do that..lol!
#5-lol. one of my close friends is the same way! I don't like haunted houses and creepy corn mazes either.
#7- i've gotten better at talking on the phone, i kinda like it now. a little better than texting, but i do like to talk to my friends in person too.
#8-I had bangs when i was younger, and let's just say they looked horrible...lol! But girl, you rock your bangs :)

    1. I love seeing what we have in common, girl! I'm glad you share my dislike for haunted houses and creepy corn mazes. I'm pretty sure I would scream my head off in one of those and hold onto the person in front of me (and beg for someone else to stand directly behind me, too).

And thanks, girl! It's funny because bangs are such high maintenance and I sometimes actually wish I didn't have them like you. Oh, hair problems. :)

    2. yes me too! i don't know if i would even be able to go in it..lol!
Your welcome. yeah they are, but they look good on you :)

  6. I was inspired by you to write my own list at http://theeverydayblessings.blogspot.com/2013/12/uniqueness.html

    #5--totally relate to that
#4--I am a librarian! Scanning barcodes IS fun, but I don't like shelving-- I get too distracted looking at all the books!

    1. Girl, I love that we're both jumpy and get startled easily. I'm definitely the most jumpy when it comes to getting startled by having people unintentionally sneak up on me so it's a relief to know I'm not the only jumpy person out there. :)

And I had no idea you're a librarian! That's so cool! I'm going to check out your post right now. :)

  7. #1--That is rough, but I can respect that. :) #2-I went to almost alllll of them. But to be honest, you didn't miss out... they were never too great. Except maybe cheesy middle school dances, so many funny memories from those. :) #3-No judgment, I'm right there with ya. I'm glad we've finally decided to embrace our television addictions. #8- I had the biggest bangs growing up, the kind that started halfway up my head... it was rough. Then I grew half out... then all of them in middle school. I have pretty curly hair so my bangs were always out of control. I can't believe my mom let me have them for so long, they were awful on me!

    1. Haha, I can only imagine what middle school dances were like. Cheesy is definitely how most people describe them! :)

And yesss, TV addicted bloggers unite. We've gotta stick together, right?

And girl, it's crazy what my hair's looked like growing up. It must be some requirement for moms to let us have crazy hair or something. They probably think it's adorable, but all I think of when seeing old school photos is "what was I thinking?" :)

    1. TV watching and not talking on the phone is where it's all about. Seriously. And I'm so glad you share my dream of being a librarian! Even though it's not my calling (as of right now, at least), I love the library environment (the quiet, the endless bookshelves, the sound of pages turning, and storytime, too!) and so wish I could spend a few days as a school librarian! :)

And I'm excited to read yours because I always look forward to your blog posts!

  9. I don't enjoy talking on the phone either, glad to see I am not the only one. It's soo awkward and weird and I never know what to say...

    1. Glad to know I share this in common with you (and so many other bloggers apparently as well!). There's something about talking on the phone that really is awkward. I've tried to think of what it is exactly, but I just can't think of exactly why I think it's awkward. It just is. And maybe that's enough of an explanation. :)

  10. I hate talking on the phone too. I hardly ever answer (or dial) my phone because it stresses me out. Also, I totally taught myself how to braid my hair too... I don't know how it happened.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Exactly! I hate the thought of mis-dialing the number so I triple-check it before I dial anything. And I always panic over what I'm going to say as I hear the phone ringing on the other end. It's terrible, really. But my job is really forcing me to get more comfortable with talking on the phone, so there's that I guess. But that doesn't mean I like it any more!!

I looove that we're hair-braiding twins! It must be innate for girls or something! :)

  11. I don't use my dishwasher very often. It's kinda therapeutic for me to wash dishes while listening to pandora.
I would have LOVED to be a librarian. I am right there with you on "seeing people discover a love for reading"!
Uhm. YES to having a slight phone phobia! I use my hands a lot while conversing, as well as facial gestures that are utterly lost in translation through phone conversations, which makes me sound quite odd often. I get nervous and just feel ridiculous when I am having a phone convo!

    ReplyDelete

    1. YESSS! I completely agree with you on dishwashing. I've never really listened to music while I wash dishes because I do them with my mom every night (I wash, she dries). But like you said, it is super therapeutic and our little conversations are definitely worth the extra few moments it takes to do them by hand.

And girl, is it weird that I can so imagine you as a librarian? I honestly think you'd make a great one--even though I know you're also a great NP (you're an NP, right?). :)

And I'm glad I'm not alone in the slight phone phobia. I'm okay once I start talking, but the anticipation of it all gets me every. single. time.

  12. #4 and #7 all the way. I was so devastated to learn too late that there was a major called Library Sciences...and that it was too late for me to switch to it.

    1. I know, I was the same thing! I had no idea how much goes into being a librarian and that they have their own major, too. It gives me wayyy more respect for librarians their job (and it kind of makes me want to be a children's librarian even more, too!). :)

  13. Why do we have so much in common?! Seriously. 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7 are ALL me. And New Girl? AMAZING. I'm almost finished watching season 2 on Netflix and I'm in love!

    1. Seriously, how DO we have so much in common? It's honestly crazy and also a little odd yet strangely cool because I haven't really met anyone who has so much in common with me until now. This just seals the deal that we have got to meet someday soon. :)

And how did I not know you watch New Girl? Or did you tell me and I just forgot? Either way, I'm so glad you watch it!! Do you watch The Mindy Project as well?

  15. Uhm, please forgive me on how far behind I am on my blog reading! Which also means that I just now saw that you tagged me in this! I'm super excited that you tagged me, because I've been wanting to do one of these...and I've just been over here patiently waiting! haha :)

#5 is totally me as well. It's embarrassing how often (and easily) someone can scare me by just walking up on me. Ugh. haha

#7 is spot on as well. I have to REALLY like you in order to talk to you on the phone. Texting?? No big deal. E-mail? Handwritten letters?? So much better. I guess I'm just better with written words. When I'm face to face with someone, I just get my words all jumbled. :( Although, I do love Skype and FaceTime with friends. Technology has helped keep me connected with so many friends while I've served in different places. I'm so thankful for it. :)

#8 Amy was spot on. Curly hair + bangs = bad news bears. But, they look great on you! :)

Now, I will go and think about all the weird/quirky things about me. :)

    1. Hey, no need to be sorry! I get behind on blog-reading allll the time. I, myself, am just getting caught up on blog-reading after a weekend of being sick.

YES. So glad you're jumpy like me. I so get what you mean, because it can be sooo embarrassing to me, too. Fortunately, my family is at least mostly aware of my jumpiness now and they try to announce their presence if they think they might scare me, haha.

And you said it with phone calls. Anything hand-written is WAYYY better than anything done face-to-face. Hence, my love for blogging. :) Skype is good, too, as long as it's with someone I know and who knows me--otherwise, I can be a little self-conscious. :) Technology is definitely amazing, right?

I'm excited to read your post now! :)

    1. You know, honestly, you seem like a phone-talking pro or something. I'm not sure why, but you seem like you'd be a natural at it! But, let's just say that I'm glad you agree. Talking on the phone is way too awkward and nerve-wracking for this girl over here!
