A HIKE + EVERYDAY MOMENTS.

hike1
We went on a hike this weekend. Nothing special nor was it far from home. We've probably been there millions of times, actually. It's out of the way but still kind of popular. But not popular enough that you cross paths or pass people every couple hundred feet. It's marvelous.

So no, there's no real reason for this post except for the fact that I've been trying to capture and remember the everyday moments this year. Partly because I want to remember them (because of my bad memory), partly because of this new project of mine, and partly because I am constantly inspired by this girl's weekender posts.
hike4
So we went hiking. My mom, dad, dog, and me. That's what it's been lately. Not because I like being the third wheel (#thirdwheelforlife), but because I've taken a liking (or loving?) for hiking these past few years and for schedules/time/interests, I'm the only daughter who consistently goes.
hike2
The hike was short (nothing like our summer 5 milers), sweet, and full of some much-needed sunshine. As my dad was driving, I sat in the back, listening to KLOVE and watching the farms and back country homes outside the window. I see things now in terms of photos. Wishing I had my camera to take a quick snapshot, a moment that seems to pass all to fast in life, thinking of photoshoot locations I hope to shoot at someday in the future. I nearly captured a lovely shot of power lines and birds, but alas, the car moved too fast and my camera too slow.

But I digress. The weather lately has been foggy, foggy, foggy lately. And while I love it, it also gets a little tiring. I miss the sun, for goodness sake! But I was reminded this past weekend that fog is beautiful. And that it is even more beautiful from behind my camera.
hike3
Once we got out of the car, tied on our hiking boots, and zipped our jackets to our chins, we started hiking down the muddy path. The air was chilly, the fog was out, but we knew the sun was coming. We passed by a cute little family with a dog that jumped over and around the hills. We passed some guys who were taking a smoking break, and then a few other people, too. The sunshine was warm, blinding, and I loved the warmth it provided on my cold yoga-pants-covered legs.

We stopped a few times, looked out into the foggy mountains. The sun was bright, making it hard for me to focus my lens so I just snapped and crossed my fingers for good results.

It was the beginning of the golden hour and I was in love. In love with the foggy hills, the sun streaks that came through, and the mountains and silhouettes that seemed to go on for ages.

It was marvelous. And the perfect ending to my weekend.

    1. It really is! I used to hate hiking as a kid, but now I loooove it. My parents think it's actually hilarious, but I just can't get enough of it now. I guess they rubbed off on me? :)

    1. Aw, thanks! And yes, who would have thought that a simple hike could turn into such a long post with so many photos? I used to think that little moments like this weren't blog-worthy, but I was definitely wrong after I wrote this post. It was exactly what I needed to write and remember. :) God's creation is amazing, right?

    1. Ummmm, that sounds PERFECT. Just PERFECT.

And thank you! I'm constantly inspired by my fellow photographer blogger friends (that would by you, btw) so it means a lot to hear and receive feedback from them (aka you). :)

I always regret not bringing my camera with me wherever I go! If I didn't worry so much about hurting (because yes, it does have feelings and is injury prone, haha) it or having it stolen, then I would likely bring it with me everywhere.

Hikes with the family (especially my dad) are a favorite of mine. Although your scenery is much more grand than ours in the Midwest! ;)

And seriously. BEAUTIFUL photos. Such a talented lady!

    1. Everyday moments are now my favorite. :) I love that you hike with your dad! I used to hate being seen in public with my parents, but now I'm pretty used to being my parents' third wheel (having our dog to hold on leash and my camera helps, too, haha). Let's go hiking, okay?

And thanks! I'm a pretty big fan of your pretty photos, girl!

  21. Love, love, LOVE all these pictures. But, I'm pretty sure I say that on most of your posts. So, how 'bout this idea? You make a coffee table book of all your photos and I'll buy the first copy. Sound like a good plan? Okay, cool. Thought so. :)

You are talented, my friend. Thanks for always sharing it with us.
