ANOTHER YEAR OLDER.

birthdayjellybelly
and yes, those are individually wrapped jelly beans.
I turned another year older earlier this month. Another one bites the dust.

Most years I look at turning older with regret. Where I should be at and where I'm not. Yet oddly enough, I didn't/don't have that feeling this year. And I fully attribute it to the fact that God's been pushing me to live fully.

I actually came home from work on the eve before my birthday and couldn't even believe that it was coming the next morning. Maybe it's a sign of age, but I think it's also a sign of change.

So yes, I am older. I go to bed way earlier than I ever imagined (who knew 3-5 year olds wear you out? You mamas are amazing!) and I haven't really changed much on the outside (at least I hope not).

But I feel it in the inside. And it's a good feeling.

I finally feel like I'm at a place where I'm not yearning to be older or younger but content that I'm where I'm at. I don't know what that means, per se, but I like it regardless.

I don't know what this year will bring, but I'm looking at it with open eyes. Not with skeptical eyes, no longer with fearful eyes, but with open eyes. Ready for all that this year has to come.

I want to see this year as a preschooler sees them. One day at a time. With excitement for the next, seeking and expecting goodness, and living like every day is a party.

I'm ready to learn new things, experience new adventures, and deepen my relationship with Him.

What are you ready for this year?

And what's your advice for a twenty-something like me?

Also, it's not too late to post about something like this, right? I mean, posts like this just sort of extend the celebrations, amiright?

  2. extended celebrations-i love it! my advice is to be brave, say "yes!" to things, go out of your comfort zone, try something new. that was my focus last year, and it was one of the best and most exciting years to date. good things happen when you simply say "yes". happy belated birthday!

    1. Good, I'm glad you're okay with my over/extended celebrating. :) And I looove your advice. Last year's word for me was bold and it's something I'm continually pushing myself to do. Also, I love what you said about saying yes. That's something I also NEED to do, not just say I'll do. :)

  5. I felt a weird embrace this year when I turned 23. Like it was a challenge or something. My advice is to stop thinking of yourself as a twenty-something. You don't have to fit into what that's supposed to be, especially because I feel like you're a bit of a old soul (hands in the air, me too). Try to find or do one new thing you love this year. Why not?

    1. Oooh, that's great advice. I all too often do feel like I need to do what this twenty-something is doing or what this twenty-something is NOT doing because, well, I'm surrounded by them. I love what you said about not needing to fit in--that is so very, very true. :)

Also, I love the idea of trying new things! I really want to push myself to get back into yoga or something since I've missed my flexibility and all that. :)

    1. Thanks, friend. It's been a tough week (as I sorta hinted at) so reading your encouragement tonight really helped refresh my trust in Him. :) Love you, friend and am so excited for all that 2014 has in store for the both of us! :)
