EVERYDAY MOMENTS: PLUM BLOSSOMS.

Every spring, the plum blossoms in my backyard start to bloom and I fall head over heels in love with flowers and spring again. There's something about a long, grey winter that makes little tiny flowers and bright blue skies that much more magnificent. Well, that, and a little sunshine never hurt anyone, too.

That said, it definitely added a little pep to my step (is that lame of me to say?) to see them blooming outside this last week. It reminds me of all that is to come, all the growth, and the new beginnings we get each and every day.

Which, as I digress, reminded me of the frustrating moment turned refreshing moment when I told a kiddo that we needed to restart the day so she could change her attitude (it works, by the way! knock on wood...).

But back to those plum blossoms. Whenever I see them bloom, I flashback to my childhood days when those blossoms were picked and added into grass-y soups that were "eaten" while playing house. Or when the blossoms turned into plums that my sisters, neighbors, and I ate like cherries (they actually tasted pretty good!). And then those photos. The photos that I took when I first discovered my love for photography.

Which brings me to now. Even though I won't always live with those blossoms in my backyard, I know that those little pink flowers will always remind me of new beginnings.

And that's something that will last longer than those little flowers.

p.s. I have a second guest post for this series up and ready for tomorrow--come back bright and early, okay?

  1. We do "day reset buttons!" And a new one I found out was a "reset bath." Because don't we as adults like taking baths? Maybe it's just me. But I'll put bubbles in there for the boys to play in... it's just enough time for them to start fresh...plus they're clean again! P.S. Love those flowers!

    1. Aren't reset buttons the best? I was a little wary of it before I tried it out but I really love it and love how it not only resets me but the kiddo, too. :) And I'll have to keep the bath idea in mind, too! It obviously isn't applicable now, but when I'm a mom? Yep, definitely keeping that one in mind!

  2. Love that you had your student restart to reset her attitude. :)
I used to send Liza to her room so she could dance her attitude right out of her toes. It worked. It's hard to dance silly and stay in a bad attitude.

    1. It worked wonders--on both me and my little kiddo. It was the perfect strategy and one that I'd seen online but didn't know if it would really work. It's definitely a trick I'm going to remember!

And I love that dancing idea, too! I'm going to have to keep that one in mind, too!

  3. i am totally swooning over your pretty pictures! oklahoma's blooming trees have not got the spring memo yet, so i'm [not so] patiently waiting to get my camera out and take too many pictures.

(the part about restarting the day to change her attitude? HILARIOUS.)

    1. Aw, thanks! I was crossing my fingers that I wouldn't miss out on any blooms since I'm working all day. And it's funny that you mentioned that yours haven't bloomed yet because mind seem to be blooming earlier than normal.

And as for resetting the day, it works wonders! I honestly don't want to wear it out, but it's one trick that I really like and recommend trying out--it even worked for me, too! :)

    1. Isn't the reset button amazing? I honestly wish I had tried that trick out earlier--and that I had learned it as a kid, too. :) It definitely works wonders with kids and adults (aka me!) alike. :)

And as for the plum tree, you definitely should get some! They're probably ornamental kind of plums (not true plums since the fruit is more cherry-like than plum-like) but the flowers are so pretty and definitely a sign of spring for me!

    1. Yep! We've had these trees for as long as I can remember and they're definitely a part of my childhood. :) If there wasn't dirt/bark under the trees (or if we had a hammock!), I would definitely want to nap there, too!

    1. Thanks, Ann! Isn't the reset button amazing? I loooove that trick and it definitely has been working lately! I'm trying not to use it too often because I don't want to outwear it, but I'm definitely keeping it in my back pocket for those special occasions! :)

  9. Such gorgeous pictures! I just got a real, official camera (in comparison to my iPhone, ha) and I can't wait to put it to use! I'll have no idea what I'm doing, but I'll learn, right? ;)

    1. Thanks, friend! And congrats on the new camera! That's so exciting! What kind of camera did you get? And as for learning, you will most definitely learn. A lot of it is based on trial and error and practice definitely becomes perfect when learning with a new camera. Happy photographing! :)

    1. Thanks, Callie! And I do, too! I'm fortunate enough to not suffer from allergies (unlike the rest of my family!), so spring flowers are something I love and enjoy, too. :)
