A LITTLE TOUR.

room1
I've had some people ask me about my room, what it looks like, how I style it, and the like. I've told people I would "someday" but truth is, I haven't really wanted to share the current state of my room because I don't actually like how it looks.

room3
The paint on the walls is from middle school when I went through a lavender/purple-everything stage. Think duvet cover, bedskirt, walls, frames, flowers, and curtains, too. Yeah. Not really my favorite anymore.

The current duvet cover (not pictured in this set, but pictured here) is a little newer than the wall colors, but definitely does not go with the grey-ish purple walls. I got it in high school when I went through my darker but still brighter pink and orange stage. Yeah. Not really my favorite anymore either.

So that brings me to now. A lover of neutrals (I guess I had enough color?), simplicity, clean lines, and lots of photos and frames. I love decorating but have yet to get to the walls and bedding. So I've rearranged shelves, added some books, added an exercise ball (that serves as a desk chair), cleaned out some toys (aka asked to store them in the attic), moved the dresser to inside the closet, and added an IKEA desk, too.

It's not a pretty state and nowhere near where I want it to be, but it's my room and here's a little glimpse into it. To be completely honest, it doesn't actually look like this now because I've changed a few things around, but since I like it so much, I'm not going to share it because I want to keep it and share the entire thing once I paint the walls this summer. So that's what it looked like back in November/December-ish (ahem).

And here are my plans for the future. Little tweaks and changes that I'd like to make to make my room, more me and less of the girl I used to be.
  • Paint the walls light grey. Not too blue or purple, but a lovely light grey color. I want my room to be light and bright; like this color, perhaps?
  • Add a corner gallery wall. I spotted one tutorial here and fell in love with the idea and concept. Now I just need to get some more frames to do it!
  • Buy/thrift a reading chair. Everyone needs a cozy spot to read, right? If you've got any recommendations, I'd love to hear it!
  • Clean out my closet. I've got lots of clothes in my dresser drawers that need to be donated and I've got tons of knick-knacks or other memorabilia stuffed in boxes that needs to be organized and cleaned out, too. It's spring and some spring cleaning is in dire need in my room!
So there you go. A little glimpse into my room and a long to-do list, too. Have you shared a tour of your home/apartment/bedroom before? What is your inspiration for your bedroom? Here's a look into what I'd love mine to look like, if you're curious (these three rooms being my top faves)!

  1. We're on the lookout for a big oversized chair for a cozy reading chair! I love going to thrift stores, but have a weird thing about buying chairs from them. I'd love to find a big old leather one! p.s. It's so fun seeing where you live!

    1. That's exactly what I'm looking for, too! I really want to be able to curl up with a good book and be uninterrupted or blog from that chair, or just have a chair in there, to be honest. :) And as much as I love thrifting, I, too, feel a tad bit weird about buying chairs (especially upholstered ones) from them. I guess I just worry about smells and bugs and stuff, haha. :)

  2. Changes, especially room changes, are always fun! It's cute now, and I'm sure it will be even more perfect for you when you finish the update!

    1. Those are my thoughts exactly! And thanks, I've tried to make the most of my space, but I really love changing it up and am hoping to get to do that now that I'm working (and not just a student) and will have some time this summer, too! :)

  3. I totally understand the time for change feeling! I your furniture pieces! They will look great with light grey walls! :) Your knickknacks, prints, and decorations do a great job of saying "Look at US!" I love the simple white frames - where did you find them? I picked up 2 reading chairs over the years and they have been my favorite thing to have in my room. I got rid of one of them (I didn't have room for it anymore), but I couldn't part with both. .What kind of chair are you looking for?

    1. I'm glad you understand! I really love changing things up and I honestly feel like it's wayyyy overdue for a change. :) And I'm glad you like the white! I'm a huge fan of white (even though I love wood and actually would like some wood in there, too) and actually got most of my furniture from good old IKEA. The frames are from IKEA, too, and whenever I go there, I have a terrible habit of picking up a few more. Fortunately they're not that expensive!

And as for reading chairs, I honestly don't really know what I'm looking for. I'd love to get some sort of upholstered chair but am pretty open as to what it looks like. I've thought about getting one from IKEA or Target or something, but haven't yet found one that I really love and am willing to pay for!

  4. Oh all the colors we think we'll love forever in middle school, how foolish. The minute I moved out of my parents house they had paint up on those walls so fast, they did not appreciate my moody dark grey emo room.

I love all the pieces in your room and I think it'll look amazing when you paint it light grey. I can't wait to see.

    1. Haha, I'm glad you can relate! I went through so many different stages (as you can tell) and now that I look back, I wonder what I was thinking. There's got to be some rule saying that we can't paint the walls when we're in middle school or something! :)

And I'm glad you're as excited as I am! I cannot wait to FINALLY change it up. :)

  5. i know what you mean! if it makes you feel any better half of my room is painted the color i want it to be, the other three walls are...2 different colors, yup and it's been like that for almost 4 months. BLEH.
it all takes time, money, and figuring out what it is you REALLY want.
i completely understand i i love what you're doing so far with it. i can't wait to see the reveal!
i love the iron bed frame, the muted walls with pops of color, that's what i'm going for too!! :)

    1. I'm glad I'm not alone! Between the money, finally figuring out what paint color I want, and time, I just haven't done it yet (or prioritized it, haha). :)

And that's exactly what I want! I would love to have a headboard of some sort and really like those tufted(?) ones and the idea of having a bedframe to lean up against to read or write at night. But I've also always had my eye on iron bedframes because they're just so timeless and they go well with so many different styles!

  6. I love this Kiki! Thanks for sharing the space you really have- instead of a pinterest photo of what you want.....there is totally beauty in your room, and I loved seeing it! Love all the prints you have! I love the "You took my heavy heart, and made it light" one a ton!
I love the idea of light gray walls though, that would be gorgeous!

    1. Aw, thanks! I felt weird posting this in-between stage of my room, but I realized that I needed before photos AND that these photos would likely give me another boost to get going on my room, too. :)

And that print is actually a freebie from Danielle Burkleo's blog, Take Heart. I'm pretty sure you can still find it on her blog! It, too, is one of my faves. :)

    1. Aw, thanks! I'm excited to finally get some things done in my room, too! I think these photos and this post will really help give me another reason to get it done...and stat. :)

  8. I love your room! I'm looking forward to see the "after" photos once you redo it. I'm pretty happy with how our house looks, except our master bedroom! I pretty much hate the color of our walls in that room (cranberry red) and it's difficult to work with. It's just too dark. I'd love to repaint it this summer! That's on my to-do list.

    1. I really do love my room, but it's in need of some updates and I'd love to change it up this summer. Here's to painting and getting stuff done this summer! :)

  9. I loved The Help! I use a lot of my favorite books or books that have pretty spines to decorate places in our home. I love bookshelf styling, like weirdly, so I love that you used things other than paperbacks to fill those :)

    1. It's one of my faves, too! I haven't actually finished the book (oops!) but I adored the movie--it's actually one of my faves and I still cannot eat chocolate pie without thinking of it. :)

I love the idea of styling bookshelves, too! I actually am using Project Bookshelf as an additional excuse to bulk up my bookshelf but I loooooooove (like really love) decorating my room, especially the shelves!

  10. I love your room! I don't mind the wall color... but I get wanting something new. My high school wall color was a hot pink! My parents just painted over it.. I don't blame them. :)

    1. Aw, thanks! In certain lights, the paint actually doesn't look all that bad, but I really do want to change it up and get out my old middle school and high school days. I guess I feel like it's time to move on and get a little more up-to-date and make it a room I love. That said, I'm glad you understand! :)

And if I moved out, I could totally see my parents painting my room again...although, my mom is recruiting me to help her choose a color for the bathrooms. But you never know, right? :)

  11. Love all your prints so cool!
The color is not bad girl, but i know you have a love for grey, that would be pretty though as well.
i love how organized everything is too. I can't wait to see what it looks like when you redo it!

    1. Thanks! Most of those are free from Pinterest, so they're all out there for you to print off, too! :) And as for organization, that's actually one of my fave things to do, haha. It sounds lame, but it's true. And if it makes you feel better, I have a couple piles in my room that need to be put away and cleaned up, so it's not that clean right now, that's for sure!
