PROJECT BOOKSHELF: MAJOR CATCH-UP.

You remember a loooong time ago when I announced Project Bookshelf? Yeah, maybe you don't. Well, I finally ordered and have caught up with my monthly bookshelf additions. Yep, it only took me 6 months to order another shipment of books. I'm thinking I should be awarded Amazon's most frequent shopper.

So I've got six new books that I've added to my shelf (not including Goodwill finds for my children's book library) and since I came up with this blog series, the least I can do now is follow through. Even if I am terribly late.

Six books, six months late. At least it's got a nice ring to it, right?

So here's what I got to fill my bookshelf for the months of April-June:
spring project bookshelf
APRIL: Introverts in the Church. I've heard a lot of good things about this book and seeing as I go to church and am an introvert, I have a feeling it's going to be a great read. I also think it will really help me understand my introversion more and help me understand how the fits into my church life, too.

MAY: Grace for the Good Girl. I've been personally recommended to read this twice and while it's not a book I'd normally pick out to read, I have a feeling it'll be another life-changing read.

JUNE: Domino: The Book of Decorating. This is one of my most favorite interior design books out there. I've checked it out from my local library twice now and have always thought about adding it to my own bookshelf. It's a little older in terms of books, but it's like Pinterest on my bookshelf, so you can't go wrong with that.

And here are my July-September picks:
summer project bookshelf
JULY: Bread & Wine. I'm a die-hard Shauna Niequist fan and seeing as this is the only book of hers that I haven't read yet, I knew it was one that I needed to add. To be honest, when I first heard of the book, I was unsure if I'd like it because I don't consider myself a foodie/dinner party person. But I do love community and eating and Shauna's writing, so I have a feeling I'll change my mind!

AUGUST: The Munschworks Grand Treasury. These books pretty much are my childhood. I'm a huge fan of original storylines, great illustrations, and funny characters, too. Robert Munsch is quite honestly my favorite children's book authors out there. So, well, being the teacher I am, I had to get this book.

SEPTEMBER: Real Talk for Real Teachers. I think this one is a great back-to-school read, especially after a crazy first year of teaching. I haven't had a chance to crack open this book yet, but I've read other books by Rafe Esquith so I know this is going to be a good one.

So those are my catch-up picks! Have you read any of these? Do you have any recommendations to fill up the rest of my shelf? I'm allll for good books and I'd love to hear what you think of my picks!

p.s. Still looking for more? Well, on Wednesday, October 22nd, The Circle is focusing on books! We're going to share our favorite books of the year, what we just finished reading, what we're reading next, our favorite book(s) as a kid, and what book we'd take if left on a deserted island. See you then!

  2. I love this project... and I love owning books, but I've been making myself get library & Kindle versions of my reads for the last year as my book shelves are full :) That Domino book would be so fun to have and be able to page through though.

  7. This project has been hard for me (I can't pick books, there are so many I want!) but it's also been a lot of fun because I love adding to my shelf and just opening a box full of books (it's like Christmas!). :) And that Domino book is REALLY good. One of my favorite interior design inspiration books out there.

  12. Let me know when you start it! I've had a few people recommend it to me and I'm thinking I need to finally start it. :) And is that book (Call the Midwife) what the TV series is based on?

  13. So if you haven't read Bread & Wine yet you are going to LOVE IT. This is seriously one of my new favorite books and I am not even done with it yet. I am a foodie/wine-o and this book spoke to my heart in a way I wasn't expecting. If you have read it then I hope you enjoyed it as much as I have!!!

  16. I actually just started it a week ago! I am loooving it right now (as I love all of Shauna's work!). I was actually a little skeptical before I started because I'm not the biggest foodie and I don't actually drink wine, but I was surprised by just how AMAZING it is. :) Have you read her other books?

  17. Isn't it great! I checked it out from my library a few years ago and have always wanted a copy of my own. No I do and now we're book twins!

And I hope you get a copy of Bread and Wine! I'm loving it and I have a feeling you will, too. And I'm so excited to dive into that introverts book. I love reading personality books and mixing this with faith just sounds a-mazing. :)

  21. I am addicted to Kisses from Katie by Katie Davis, Twelve Stones by Barbara Carole and Starving Jesus by Craig Gross and J.R. Mahon. I go back to these 3 books almost every year and if I don't re-read them all the way through I have a habit of flipping to my favorite chapter and just reading that. I really feel God has done something MAJOR in all of the lives of these authors and every time I read their books it sends me to the scripture and into time with the Lord. I LOVE THEM!!!

  22. Meg, I didn't mean for that to happen LOL I just sort of invited myself into your world. I am trying to meet bloggers since I am still so new at blogging and just like in the "real world" the way I meet people is I invade their bubbles.

  23. I totally didn't mean it that way! I meant it as an exciting thing!!! I'm so glad you asked!!! I'm sorry it came across wrong!

  24. Ooh, Kisses for Katie is a great read! I can't remember if I got to finish that book (I checked it out from the library) but it was definitely a great one. I haven't heard of Twelve Stones or Starving Jesus but I'll definitely check them out, especially if they're a book you've read/flipped through almost every year! :)

  25. Thanks for the link! I love meeting new bloggers and checking out their spaces. I hope to get a chance to soon! :) And I think it'll be tons of fun to read it with other people. It sounds like we've got a great group, @meg - me with the three!

  26. Oh don't worry I didn't think you meant it mean at all. Sorry my silly dry humor doesn't read through messages. :) But I do just jump into peoples lives and make them love me, that is just a fact.

  27. Just as a "warning" Starving Jesus is very in your face for Christ. The guys have started xxxchurch.com "The number one Christian Porn Site" it is to help people with both the addiction and in the industry to get out and have a life lived for Christ. They have the kind of "flip the tables over in the temple" kind of righteous anger for God and it is an eye opening experience to read that book!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah, now that you mention it, it really does sound familiar in that sense. Even though it sounds like it is in your face, I do think it would make an interesting read! Thanks for letting me know! :)

  29. Yep! There are 3 books in the series written by Jennifer Worth. They're really good!
