WORD OF THE YEAR | 2015.

believe2015
That's my word for this year. I've been choosing a word for the year for three years now (here's 2014's word and 2013's word) and as a wordy girl, I think it's going to be a long-held tradition.

Come late December, however, I always get a little panicky because I don't know what that word will be.

This year's word came a early for me. I don't really know how it got into my heart and mind, but when I heard it, I knew it would be the one. It's one of those gut feelings, you know?

I've been meaning to make faith more of a priority in my life. I think it's something that all people of faith try to do and it's something that I feel like I've written down as goals but never took them seriously in the long-run.

But I want that to change. I want faith and love and Jesus to be the reasons I wake up in the morning. I want them to be the reasons why I have hope and why I can trust Him even though I can't see Him.

And I think faith all comes down to believing. I want to believe in His promises, believe that His grace is sufficient, and believe that He has great plans for me. I want to believe so that I can help others see and feel His love.

So I'm going to focus on believing. Not just saying I believe, but truly believing. I want to grow in my faith, I want to see myself change and I want to feel it, too.

Do you have a word of the year? Or do you have goals for 2015? What are your thoughts on resolutions?

  1. thats an awesome word. i had the same thing - i don't know my word came about it just came into my mind/heart and i knew it was for this year! I am totally the same though and it is definitely something I think a lot of people of faith do like you said. Continually striving to be closer to God. The best kind of thing!!!

  2. I love the lighten in which you chose this word, i have seen many people choose it but didn't understand why. I love reading peoples' reasoning behind their words, its always so fascinating. My word for the year is 'Will' both the noun and verb.

  6. Beautiful! I love your word, and I love your passion and heart behind it.
My word for 2015 is "apply." I felt the Lord gently leading me to see that sometimes I learn things without applying them to my life. I want to spend this year focusing on genuine, deep, life changing application. We'll see how it goes!

  7. I feel like the only blogger who does NOT have a word. I have monthly goals, and they keep me focused. I love the concept of the words, but I haven't felt drawn to it for myself.

  8. I love that people do this. For the past 6 years, I've asked Matt to pick a word. This year, he predicts it to be the year of preparation. With thoughts of starting a family in the near future, we want to use this year to prepare our health, our spirits, our relationship, and our finances.

I love the word you chose. As believers, it's easy to get stuck somewhere in the midst of everything, floundering about, trying to actually see. Matt and I are reading through Hebrews together, and it's so true what they said about God's people, wandering and giving in to sin and deceit. There He was, miraculous and protective, and forever providing, and they still couldn't focus their belief. It's scary how easy it can be for me to behave the same way.

Kiki, I love how committed you are to the Lord. I can't wait to see how this year unfolds for you. :)

  13. Amen to what you said! I have been wanting to make my faith more of a priority in my life and even though I'm only six days into the year, I can already feel some changes.

  14. Thanks, Chelsea! I love discovering what my word is and I also love discovering what other words people choose, too. I LOVE your word! It has so much energy and inspiration in it!

  15. Me, too! I'm always fascinated and intrigued by what people choose and the meaning and reasons behind their choices.

You mentioned that Matt chooses a word for the year--is this a word that you share or do you each have a word? I think preparation is a great one and I think it can also hold so many meanings. I love that yours encompasses so many parts of your lives and marriage!

And you pretty much nailed why I chose that word. I feel like I've kind of put my faith on the backburner (even if it wasn't necessarily intentional). So I feel like if I don't make it a priority, I will never change that. Of course, this is easier said than done! :)

I also love the book of Hebrews! There are so many great books in the Bible but I really love the book of Hebrews. It really has some great insight and provides a lot of chances for reflection--just like what you mentioned!

  16. I think it's all about what works best for you! I wish I was a monthly goal kind of girl but it just doesn't work for me (only because I'm pretty sure I couldn't get them all done or have enough goals to make it worth it).

I've always loved the concept of a word, but that's mainly because I'm a wordy girl. Who knows, maybe a word will come to you soon! :)

  17. Thanks, Amy! It's already been something I've found a new focus on and it's also just refreshed and recharged my desire to pursue Him. I know it's not going to be an easy word to pursue and live out, but in a way, I NEED the challenge.

And I also LOVE your word! I never would have thought to choose a word like apply, but I also completely get why you chose it because I've done the same thing! It's all too easy to say something or read something and not actually do it. Focusing on being intentional and genuine is something I hope to improve upon, too!

  18. Thanks, Aubrey! I'm excited for what this year will bring for the BOTH of us!

  19. Thanks, Ladonna! I know it's not going to be an easy word to live out this year, but I also know that I NEED to make a change and if a word will help, then so be it. :) Happy 2015 to you!

  20. Thank you, Robyn! Faith really does come down to believing and remembering. I also love that you pointed out that we need to remember His goodness and that remembering really is the base of it all. That is SO true and something that I need to remind myself of! :)

  21. Thanks, Lizelle! I, too, LOVE reading the reasons and the meaning behind each person's word for the year. It's definitely inspiring!

And I also love your word! I think it's so much fun to see what words people choose because half of the time, they're words I never would have thought of using before. I also love that your word has both a noun and verb definition--double the meaning and significance! :)

  22. It's gotta be a God-thing, right? :) I personally love it when stuff like that happens because it really just means that it's meant to be because of His plans and timing. What's your word of the year?

    ReplyDelete
  23. which is such a blessing. God will move mountains when we open the gates to the valley ya know? He can move mountains regardless of us - but we really see the change when we let Him, with love, into our lives.

  24. I think it has got to be yes! My word is Rest this year :)

  25. Ooh, that's a wonderful word! I think another blogger I know picked it, too. It's something that I actually have to work on myself--especially when it comes to sitting down and resting at work! :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. A blessing, indeed. I think opening the gates is something I tend to shy away from just because I hate pain. But I've been craving growth and change in my faith for awhile now so we'll see where it takes me! :)

  27. Since I can remember, I've always asked Matt to predict the year and come up with a name for it. Typically it's meant to signify what they year will mean for the both of us. It's part game, and part what we want to focus on. I also have him pick a word for the year we just experienced as a way to reflect on whether or not it lived up to his earlier prediction.

  28. Believe, believe, believe. Great word and challenge for this year. "And I think faith all comes down to believing. I want to believe in His promises, believe that His grace is sufficient, and believe that He has great plans for me. I want to believe so that I can help others see and feel His love." Wonderful words, friend. :)

My word is "better." And my mission/vision for this year is to be "better" -- to live better, do better, be better. For myself, for my family/future family, and for God and His glory! :)

  29. Ooh, I love the meaning and reasons behind your word! I love that better can really build upon all the domains in one's life and those are all areas in life that I need to better upon, too!

  30. That is such a cool thing to do as a couple! And I also love that it's part game and part plan or focus for the year. I love that you two do so many fun things together!

  31. My word is GROWTH. I read someplace that Americans are the few people who think of this as something that we control/manipulate. We grow plants, we grow ideas, we grow/make babies. So much of it is in His hands. I am opening my heart to His will and am excited to see Him grow me.

  32. Ooh, I love what you said about Americans thinking that growth is something we can control. So much of it really IS in His hands, however! I'm excited to see how/where He leads you and helps you grow!
