THE CIRCLE MARCH 2015: BLOG NAME STORIES.

blognamestories
Happy March, friends! This month's Circle topic is all about blogs, blog names, and blog stories. And since we all know talking about blogging is one common thread between all of us in the blogging community, I have a feeling these posts are going to be some of the best to read.

To me, blog names really do tell a story in and of itself. To some, it's their name, or their store/brand, or maybe even from a book or song they enjoy. Either way, it was chosen with love and care and it's really a part of each blogger's identity--online and offline.

But before I share mine, I want to introduce you to this month's co-host! Katie has a very bright, sweet, and encouraging personality that really shines through her blog. I remember first meeting her via The Circle (Closet Confidential vlogs, I think!) and really clicking with her joyful attitude about life. I know you will, too!

I'm Katie, the writer over at Hot Tea and the Empty Seat where I blog about marriage, life, and Jesus. I love coffee, traveling with my sweet husband, our Siberian Retriever we call Penny, and living my life for Jesus. Stop by and say hey!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As many of you know, my blog name hasn't always been In Its Time. For the first few years I blogged, I blogged under the name, Paint Chip Madness, named for my love of paint chips and color. But as time went on, I realized that having a blog centered around DIY projects and interior design wasn't something I was so keen about after all. Sidenote: major props to the DIY bloggers out there! Shooting and creating tutorials is not an easy feat.

So after some thinking, reading, praying, and emailing, I realized that I needed to re-brand and really just start my blog off again from scratch (more on that here). And that's where In Its Time was born, based off Ecclesiastes 3:11, which says "He will make everything beautiful in its time." Sidenote: did you notice there's no apostrophe there? Grammar-blogging-friends unite!

That verse struck me because at the time, singleness was what my heart was singing. Along with my deep need for patience, trust, and letting go of control. My life is not mine and this verse is a beautiful reminder of His plans and perfect timing.

And this still rings true in my life today. When I think about what my blog means to me now, I still need to remind myself that He's in control. And that His plans are perfect. And that no matter what, His plans will bring so much more beauty than any of my own.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So what does YOUR blog name mean? Does the name still ring true today or does it have an additional meaning (or two!) now? Would you ever change your blog name?

If you'd like to share (which I hope you do/will!), grab a button, add your link below and share your post with the hashtag #thecirclelinkup!

So mark your calendars and keep your eyes open for more information! I plan on sending out an email with the topic and more information in the weeks to come. Let me know if you want to be added to the mailing list!

  1. I loved writing this post--what a great topic! I can't wait to read about where other bloggers' names came from! I love the title of your blog, and always wondered about how you came up with it.

  2. I had no idea your title came from Ecclesiastes! And since I've been reading your blog for less than a year, I didn't realize this was the rebranded version. I can't wait to find out about everyone else's blog names too!

  3. I love how Ecclesiastes was your inspiration! What a great topic for a link-up. I might have to see if I can articulate the reasons behind my name well enough for a whole post. I found you through Belle Brita this morning. :)

  4. I've always loved your blog name and its great to hear the story behind the name. It's always such a good reminder to trust God for things to happen in His time and it's so cool how your name is a daily reminder of that!

PS- back in the day when i didn't have my own blog and just was a creeper I think I stumbled across Paint Chip Madness and didn't make the connection that it was you until now! 😊

  15. I've loved your blog name ever since I first came by here!!!! Reading about what it has meant and what it has come to mean to you was really beautiful! I love knowing that you're waiting on God to make everything beautiful in its time!!!

  16. I love the simplicity and yet the deep meaning in your blog's name! My blog "walk/humbly" was started out as just a space to show film + photography for friends/others. My husband and I decided on the name because Micah 6:8 is a verse we both feel encompasses how we should live our lives. The blog itself has become a hodgepodge of topics!

  17. I had never heard the history of your name but I really like it. I love those verses in Ecclesiastes. I'm glad your blog is a reminder of that!

  18. Ooh, what a great topic!! I am going to click though ALL THE LINKS at some point this week, because I loooove hearing people's name stories. I couldn't come up with a blog name for the longest time, and eventually just went with my own name because of indecisiveness. Only recently did THE ONE dawn on me and I immediately started re-branding. :D I'm totally doing a post about it in a day or two!

  19. It was such a fun topic to read through! I always think we'll run out of possible topics for the link-up but I'm constantly amazed at what my co-hosts and I come up with. :) It's been fun and I cannot wait to read yours!

Also, what's this about a new name and branding? SOOOOO excited to hear more!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I loved reading your post! I loved hearing how everyone came up with their names and how they hold so many different meanings, too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yep! It's funny because if you didn't know where my blog name came from, you would probably have NO idea what it's referring to. :)

Thanks for linking up as always!

  22. I hope you do get a chance to write up a post! It's been so much fun to read everyone's stories and I would love to know more about your blog name! :)

  30. These stories really are great! It's been a lot of fun to see what everyone has to say and just see how much our blogs are a part of our lives and outlook on life. :) Thanks for sharing yours!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Haha, how did I know you would appreciate that apostrophe comment? :) I know that a lot of people just don't understand that proper use of apostrophes, but it's hard for me not to chuckle sometimes when I see it because it would really make noooo sense if it were there--you know? :)

    Anyway, thank you for understanding!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh girl, you know how to make me smile. Reading those words really just affirmed me in my decision (with His leading, of course) to make this blog what it is. Thank you for that! :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks, Monica! I am all about simplicity and I definitely understand and am really loving that you not only understand the name I chose but the meaning behind it, too.

I looove and adore your blog name as well! I love that it's not just a place for you to share photography but that it's a place for you to live out Micah 6:8--that is such a powerful verse! :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. That verse has played again and again in my mind ever since I re-branded the blog and it's only further reminded me why it's my blog's name and a part of my identity. :) Ecclesiastes is full of great verses, that's for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  35. It went really well! I left actually feeling excited about the school year!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ooh, that's awesome! I'm going to have to email you more about these plans of yours--I had no idea you were homeschooling! :)

  37. "That verse struck me because at the time, singleness was what my heart was singing. Along with my deep need for patience, trust, and letting go of control. My life is not mine and this verse is a beautiful reminder of His plans and perfect timing."

Love. Love. Love. This is something that the Lord has just recently taught me...again! Just when I think I have the patience, the trust, and the letting go handled...He shows me that I don't, but that I need to. Love your blog, your space, and you! :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh goodness. So many emotions, thoughts, and love friend! I read your reaction to my post and was just reminded of our friendship and bonding over singleness. LOVE you and your blog, my friend! :)
