SLOW, EASY MORNINGS.

I want to remember the easiness that comes with summer. How time seems to slow down and the days become a blur. For nine months out of the year, my life is a blur itself. Waking up, going to work, and then heading off to sleep before I fall asleep watching TV (I do make time for eating and showers, just so you don't think I'm totally crazy).

But then June hits and my mind slows down.

Mornings are slower. I still wake up to my dog but I don't have to get out of bed by the time my alarm goes off. I can hang out in bed, watching Youtube videos or scrolling through Instagram without having to worry about being late and missing my bathroom slot (you, too, would need them if you have two sisters in the house!).

It's nice when the hardest part of your day is making it through a workout. It's a luxury, really. And I love that summertime allows me to make myself a priority.

And then I'm able to take a shower, get some chores or errands done, do some reading/writing, and maybe even binge watch some TV, too. But it only comes after my slow mornings.

Yep, slow mornings are where it's at. And I hope that this post reminds me come September that slow mornings are needed every now and then.

Because without them, time would fly by way too quickly.

How do YOU make time for slow mornings/afternoons/evenings?

  1. I LOVE slow mornings too! It's a beautiful way to start the day and definitely nice to make a good foundation to build the rest of your schedule on!

  2. I am looking forward to slow mornings for the month of August. During the school year, I try to have a slow morning on at least one Saturday a month.

  3. Slow mornings are the best! I've been savoring that part of my summer as well. During the school year I will sometimes set my alarm 10 minutes early to tTy and capture the slow morning feel before I start my day.

  4. Slow mornings are so refreshing. While it would be nice to get one every weekend, I do try to make sure at least every other weekend has one. It really sets the tone for the rest of the week when you feel refreshed!

  5. As a teacher who is also finishing her degree while working I TOTALLY get this, these words might as well have popped out of my mouth! i LOVE slow mornings! Previously I said to a few friends how much I was looking forward to summer holiday, not wholly for the sleep but for that oment when my body will wake me up, I will feel the panic of tiredness and NEEEEDING to get out of bed then smile into my pillow as I remember I have no where to be but there,

    What a glorious feeling!

  7. I agree, it's so nice to be able to set the rest of my day on a good foundation--especially if I'm well-rested! :)

  8. Ooh, I like that goal for Saturdays--I feel like I try and do that, but never as an intentional goal. I might have to adopt that one for the upcoming school year! :)

  9. That's a great idea for the school year! I've been trying to think of how I can bring the slow mornings to the school year and never thought about waking up early for that purpose. I just might have to try that one out!

  11. YES! I look forward to summers, but mostly to the summer mornings where I can spend a few extra minutes waking up and not have to worry about the time. :) Here's to more slow mornings!

  12. Haha, I agree. I could definitely wake up early during the school year for those slow mornings, but I'm pretty sure I would just sleep through it! :)

  13. Love slow mornings :) I'm not much of a morning person so any morning where I can just lay in bed and take my time waking up is wonderful!

  14. Oh friend, I think we may have the same heart. :) This summer, I've really held onto and savored every slow morning, as I know come August they will be few and far between. Can you believe I go back to school next week and then the kiddos come back on the 3rd!? Whew, it flew by! I love how you worded it "And I love that summertime allows me to make myself a priority." Yes, yes, yes.

  16. So glad you've been able to hold onto the slowness of summer mornings! I think it's something on every teacher's hearts, especially during the summertime when we get the (much-needed!) time to take time for ourselves. I feel guilty at times, but then I think about the school year and late nights! :)

Also, how are you headed back to school already?!?!? I always forget that you get out earlier so you start back sooner, too. My first day back is September 1st!

i am not the best with taking time for "slow"...i'm always a go - go - go! person...i need to slow down more often and appreciate the little things.

  18. That's how I am in the mornings during the school year (or all day, really). I'm always busy, busy, busy. I've been trying to think of more ways to intentionally show down during the school year so I can bring these slow mornings into my every day routine. :) It's tough, that's for sure!

  19. I'm not a morning person so usually mornings are hurried as I try to get midget and myself out of the house within 30 minutes (never happens). But evenings are mine and mine alone. After a stressful day, I turn off all electronics, I turn on the radio, I pour myself a glass of wine and munch on cheese, salami, and other accompaniments. The hubby is usually downstairs having his own wind down routine while the midget is fast asleep. It's glorious me time.

  20. I love that you make evenings your time--that's what I tend to do during the school year when mornings are busy and rushed! I think it's super important for parents to have some downtime and it's great to hear you and your husband get to do that! :)
