EVERYDAY MOMENTS | MORNING WALKS.

My new morning routine consists of a long walk while listening to podcasts. With the recent hot weather, I've been choosing walking over running because, well, I'm a wimp and I don't like to sweat all that much.

But I digress. Last week, I slipped on my tennis shoes and headed out for my walk but I didn't know where to go. I have a lot of pretty neighborhoods and parks nearby but as I locked the door behind me, I had no idea where I wanted to go. I walked down the street a little before turning back. If I didn't know where I was going, why would I go out? It seemed foolish to go out without a final destination in mind. So I turned around and was ready to pull out my keys again but stopped myself and decided to walk anyway.

I felt ridiculous turning around and around again, but it was at that moment that I realized you don't have to know where you're going, you just have to choose to go

And isn't that what faith and life is all about? As much as we plan and as much as we'd like to know now, we don't know what life will bring us. We don't know what surprises will come our way, what events will come up, and where Jesus will take us.

Because when we choose Jesus, we choose a life that isn't easy. And we also choose a life that's dependent on Him, trusting that He will lead us down paths that are all a part of His perfect plan. If you're like me, you'll want to know where you're going, but having faith means trusting that He will be there with us as we walk down every turn in the path, no matter where it takes us. And sometimes, those unplanned paths we take, or those unexpected turns bring us the best surprises.

And even the hardest paths, the ones with all the hills and switchbacks, are filled with lessons worth learning. And sometimes, it's in those tough inclines that we learn more about ourselves and our desperate need for Him, too. It's also those tough moments that teach us we're a lot stronger than we ever thought.
