September 4, 2017

I go back to work tomorrow. But for the first time--ever--I'm not dreading it. Don't get me wrong, I will miss the days of sleeping in and being in charge of my time/routines, but I'm excited to get back into the classroom, put the last finishing touches on the new space, and spend time with my co-workers again.

This summer was so good to me. Summertime is so sweet for me. It's like dessert, really. It doesn't last long, but every single bite is full of pure enjoyment. Even though I have to budget for it, I choose not to work on the summer so that I can work on myself. I dedicate the short 2 1/2 months to focus on my health, my relationships/community, and my creativity.

And I'm more determined than ever to bring these same goals into fall (and beyond). As a teacher, I've always felt obligated to put myself on the back burner during the school year. I put my all into my job because I love it, but all too often forget to take the time to care for me.

But after getting my summer body back, I'm determined to keep it throughout the school year, too. I'm looking for different classes to take during the wintertime (while trying not to get too anxious about losing sunlight in the evening hours come October!) and trying to challenge myself to take sick days when I need to (or just mental health days, too).

I'm losing my pride of trying to "have it all put together" because in reality, I never have and never will.

So here's to a new school year.

Another chance to work on myself.

And for grace that covers it all.
