I have yet to see a California beach sunset but I LOVE Pacific Ocean sunsets. :) I love that you all documented that moment and then decided to put the cameras down. That is a great compromise!

I agree with you in that photos and photography capture moments and I do LOVE having photos to look back on, too. But like you said, sometimes life calls for enjoying the moment (and playing games and chatting!) then taking photos!Kikihttp://www.initstimeblog.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7858077928947631725.post-78458987357564175462014-12-09T19:31:27.062-08:002014-12-09T19:31:27.062-08:00I agree with you on ALL of those things. As a photographer (or really, just someone who loves taking photos), I have a hard time admitting that there are times in life when the camera needs to be put down, but it's true! I actually have started to do the same thing with my camera--that is, leaving it at home for certain gatherings and outings. It definitely can seem like work (at least blogging-wise for me!), that's for sure!

And I LOVE that idea of having photography days. I've started doing that already on the weekends and love the concept of doing that as a regular thing and part of my routine. Thanks for that tip!Kikihttp://www.initstimeblog.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7858077928947631725.post-80543987314612600422014-12-09T15:12:29.075-08:002014-12-09T15:12:29.075-08:00Interesting question. We took a bunch of pictures of it, but then we all put our cameras away and just watched it sink into the water. I do love pictures because they can freeze a moment in time, and it's helpful and nice to have images to go along with a particular story, but definitely sometimes just taking the moment in is good. I did that during Thanksgiving too. It wasn't necessarily intentional, but at the end of the day I realized I hadn't taken any pictures! We were having too much fun talking and playing games :)Amandahttp://www.theladyokieblog.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7858077928947631725.post-64062261938808333762014-12-09T05:01:02.001-08:002014-12-09T05:01:02.001-08:00I snuck a read of this at work yesterday and forgo...I snuck a read of this at work yesterday and forgot to comment. :)

I love that you did this little camera down time experiment. I like what Leelee said: I was too busy celebrating.

Sometimes, you just have to live in the moment, as you said. I've stopped bringing my camera to restaurants or small gatherings. It's hard to enjoy and interact when you constantly have a camera in your hand. I started to feel like I was "working" all the time.

Maybe try to set days aside as photography days so you don't miss things like foggy mornings. :) I used to do that - purposefully wake up to take photos at sunrise, or to document my entire day in photographs. I think when you plan for it as a special hoppy focused day, it tends to add value rather than take away. :)Christina Conradhttp://www.christinaelyse.com/journal/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7858077928947631725.post-18626279740388772552014-12-08T20:25:18.374-08:002014-12-08T20:25:18.374-08:00I'm proud of you Kiki! I'm all for documentation (obviously) but so,grimes you don't love in the moment if you're constantly taking photos with your blog in mind. I actually realized that taking my camera wit...YES! I actually realized that taking my camera with me was turning into an anxiety where I would take along my camera for that "what if" moment. And I would worry that if I didn't take it with me, I would miss out on something awesome. But like you said, not every memory should be made from behind a camera. That sentence really got me--in a good way! :)Kikihttp://www.initstimeblog.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7858077928947631725.post-28966422560979528732014-12-08T19:31:35.902-08:002014-12-08T19:31:35.902-08:00I can totally relate to what you're saying. I ...I can totally relate to what you're saying. I think that it's almost become a norm to have cameras attached to us--whether they're DSLRs or phones. What I started to realize was that it was turning into an anxiety where I used to bring along my camera for the security of having it "just in case." But sometimes there are pretty sunsets and celebrations that are meant to be enjoyed and seen without a viewfinder on a camera. :)

And I also completely get what you mean about taking lots of photos. I'm totally guilty of it (and likely will be as a parent!). I do think it's important to document life but I also think that--like you said--things can get lost and can lose the sentimental value when it's over done. It's all about balance, right? :)Kikihttp://www.initstimeblog.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7858077928947631725.post-87210603302162086772014-12-08T19:28:52.496-08:002014-12-08T19:28:52.496-08:00Hooray for not falling into the trap of needing to...Hooray for not falling into the trap of needing to post just to post.
